Privacy Policy

Dawn Apps ("Dawn Apps," "we," "us," or "our") makes Emberway, an iPhone app that helps adults step away from pornography (Bundle ID: co.dawnapps.emberway), and the related pages on dawnapps.co (together, the "Services").
Emberway deals with something private, so it is built to keep almost everything on your phone. This policy explains exactly what stays on your phone, the few things that leave it and why, who helps us run those parts, and the choices you have. By using Emberway you agree to this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.
1. The short version
- No account, no email, no name. Emberway never asks who you are.
- What you write and log stays on your phone: your answers, your why, your plans, your notes, your check-ins and moods, your urges and slips, and Ember's state.
- Nothing about your browsing or your apps reaches us. Blocking is done on your phone by Apple's Screen Time, and Apple does not tell Emberway which sites you visit or which apps you lock.
- A few features need our server: chatting with Ember, adding a partner, and telling us how the app is going. Each is tied to a random code, never to your name.
- No ads. We do not sell or share your data for advertising. We do not track you across other apps or websites.
2. Information that stays on your phone
These are stored only on your device, in the app's private storage, and are never sent to us:
- Your answers to the opening questions (how often, when, what's usually underneath, how long).
- Your why, your if-then plans, your tricky hours and the moments of your day ("anchors").
- Your notes (why, trigger and good-moment notes), your morning and night check-ins, your moods, your activities, and the waves and slips you log.
- Your progress: days in control, hours given back, waves ridden, shield stops and the Path.
- Your chats with Ember, only if you turn on "Ember remembers our chats". With it off, a chat is forgotten when you close it.
- Your preferences, including the optional faith layer, and the name and number of "My person" if you add one (Emberway never contacts them; you do).
If you turn on the faith layer for prayer times, your rough location (rounded to about a kilometre) is used on your phone to work out the times. It is not sent to us. If you turn on the mirror on the urge screen, the front camera shows your face for a few seconds; nothing is recorded or stored.
3. Information that leaves your phone, and why
A random install code
On first use, the app creates a random code that identifies this install of Emberway, not you. It is used only for the features below.
Chatting with Ember
When you send a message to Ember, the conversation so far and a short summary of your situation from your phone (your why, your plans, your tricky hours, the feeling that's usually underneath, and counts from today such as whether you've checked in) are sent to our server to write Ember's reply. Our server does not store the text of your messages. It keeps only the time of each message, with your install code, to apply a daily limit. If you turn on chat memory, a short summary of a chat is written by the same service and stored on your phone, not on our server.
Before a message is sent to the AI, our server checks it for signs that someone may be in danger or under 18, and responds with care and with real help where needed.
Partner
If you invite a partner, our server stores your first name and theirs as you typed them, the invite code, the level you chose (what they hear), and the notes the app sends them at that level: for example, waves ridden and clear days this week, whether protection is on, and, at higher levels, that a slip was logged, that protection is set to turn off, or that you asked to open a site (with the site's address). Your partner never sees what you looked at, what you felt, or anything you wrote. Kind words your partner sends you are stored so they can be delivered. To send notifications, we store each phone's Apple push notification token.
How Emberway is going
At a good moment, the app may ask whether Emberway is helping. If you answer, your answer is stored with your install code: yes or no, the reasons you picked, any message you chose to write, what prompted the question, your number of days since setup, and the app version.
Subscription
Purchases are made through Apple. We use RevenueCat to check whether your subscription is active. RevenueCat receives an anonymous app user identifier and your purchase and subscription status from Apple. We do not receive your payment details.
Screen Time
Emberway uses Apple's Screen Time (Family Controls) on your phone to turn on Apple's adult-website filter, add a list of adult sites to it, and lock the apps you choose. The apps and categories you choose are stored by Apple as private tokens that Emberway cannot read. Times when a locked app showed its shield are counted on your phone. None of this is sent to us.
Usage analytics and session recordings
To learn where Emberway helps and where people get stuck, the app sends anonymous usage data to PostHog: which screens are opened, which setup steps are finished, which features are used (as names and fixed choices only, for example that a check-in was done), when the subscription screen was shown, which plan was picked, whether a trial started, and the App Store's error code if a purchase fails. Each event carries a random identifier and basic device details (app version, iOS version, device model), and PostHog estimates an approximate country from the connection.
Emberway may also record sessions: a replay of taps and screen changes, used to fix confusing screens. Recordings hide everything you type, all images and camera views, your why, notes, and conversations with Ember, and they pause entirely on private screens (urges, slips, check-ins, notes, plans, partner and chat).
None of this includes anything you wrote, and none of it is tied to your name or used for advertising. You can turn it all off at any time in You, then Privacy, under "Share usage data".
4. How we use information
- To provide the features you use: Ember's replies, the partner feature, and subscription access.
- To keep the service working and fair, for example the daily chat limit.
- To understand what isn't working, from the answers you choose to give us, and improve the app.
- To respond if you contact us.
We do not use your information for advertising, we do not sell it, and we do not build profiles of you.
5. Who processes information for us
We use a small number of service providers, only for the purposes above:
- Supabase hosts our server functions and database (United States).
- Anthropicprovides the AI model (Claude) that writes Ember's replies. Anthropic processes the messages to generate a reply, does not use them to train its models, and may keep them for a limited time to detect misuse, under its commercial terms.
- RevenueCat checks subscription status.
- PostHog receives the anonymous usage events and session recordings described above (United States).
- Apple handles purchases, delivers notifications and provides Screen Time.
We may also disclose information if required by law, or to protect the safety of a person, but we hold very little that could identify you.
6. How long we keep it
- Everything on your phone stays until you delete it or delete the app.
- Chat message times (for the daily limit) are kept with your install code until you delete everything.
- Partner records are kept while the partnership is active and removed when it ends or when you delete everything.
- Answers about how Emberway is going are kept until you delete everything.
7. Your choices
- Export my data (You, then Privacy) gives you a file of everything Emberway holds on your phone.
- Delete everything (You, then Privacy) erases everything on your phone, removes every Screen Time block and lock Emberway set, and deletes everything our server holds for your install: partner links and messages, push tokens, chat limit records and your answers about the app.
- You can turn chat memory off at any time, and delete past chats, in You, then Talking with Ember.
- You can remove Emberway's Screen Time access at any time in your iPhone's Settings, and turn off notifications there.
- Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct or delete your information, or object to its use. Because we don't know who you are, the fastest way is Delete everything in the app. You can also contact us at meetayyab@gmail.com.
8. Adults only
Emberway is for adults aged 18 and over. The app asks you to confirm your age before you start, and points anyone younger to free help for their age. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you believe a child has used Emberway, contact us and we will delete what we hold.
9. Security
Data on your phone is kept in the app's private storage, protected by iOS. Optional Face ID lock keeps Emberway closed to others using your phone. Information sent to our server travels over encrypted connections (HTTPS), and access to our database is restricted to our server. No method is perfectly secure, but we keep what we hold to a minimum.
10. International transfers
Our server and providers are mainly in the United States. If you use Emberway from elsewhere, the limited information described in section 3 is processed there.
11. Changes
If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top and, for meaningful changes, tell you in the app before they apply.
